FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, N.Y., June 1, 2025 —Today, 4A Arts (American Alliance of Artists and Audiences) announces the expansion of its Board of Directors with Joy Javits. This growth in the nonprofit arts advocacy organization reflects its growing leadership in the national arts ecosystem, particularly with respect to its current initiative, Organizing for the Arts (O4A), in which 4A Arts employs grassroots organizing techniques transforming citizens from arts consumers into arts advocates.
“When the indomitable Charles Rinehart asked me to join his efforts to proclaim the relevance, the importance, the rich-for-your-spirit aspect of the arts to the American people, I said yes,” said Ms. Javits. “Everyone is enhanced by the arts: singing, listening to music, reading to a loved one or your children or to yourself, dancing when no one is watching or on a stage, writing about your life or your ideas, solutions, and opinions, drawing, painting anime or still life or portrait, photography, playing music (a lute, lyre, harp, xylophone, guitar, flute, trumpet, sax, piano, violin, cello,) attending a play, acting, daring to take an improvisation class, visiting a museum (free in almost every part of the world), or reciting spoken word. The arts add a treasured moment to every single day. 4A Arts wants everyone to see that and to include it into our thereby enriched lives. 4A Arts wishes to strengthen the arts’ voice in government, to be sure music, visual art and drama are included in every school. Join this great movement, please.”
Joy Javits’ career spans dance, public speaking, choreography, and innovative art therapy treatment in hospitals. She founded two businesses: In the Public Eye (public speaking consultancy for doctors, PhDs and others to speak concisely with clarity and conviction,) and DooR to DooR (bringing performing, literary, and visual artists to the bedside of patients in University of North Carolina hospitals.) She has cultivated the NYC Foster Grandparent Program, choreographed musicals on and off-Broadway, and has taught dance for all ages. In addition to 4A Arts, she serves on the board of the Jacob K. and Marian B. Javits Foundation, has served on the board of the Dance Association of North Carolina, North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble, North Carolina Arts in Action, chaired the Orange County Arts Commission, and been a member of Actors Equity. Her expertise comes from her education and experience in theatre, dance, politics, literature, and a love of humanity.
“4A Arts is so lucky to have a tour-de-force like Joy as a member of our team. Joy clearly is a person of action and conviction. She is devoted to improving communities and individuals through creativity and humanity,” said Gavin Lodge, 4A Arts Executive Director. “With Joy on our side, we will broaden horizons, communicate our mission, and accelerate our growth transforming citizens from arts consumers into arts advocates.”
