January 20, 2026 — New York, NY. 4A Arts (American Alliance of Artists and Audiences) is pleased to announce the appointment of William “Bill” R. Griffith to its Board of Directors. Griffith brings decades of experience in corporate law, health care, and nonprofit leadership, adding strategic depth to 4A Arts’ mission of advancing public support for creativity across America.
Mr. Griffith began practicing law in 1974, building a distinguished career in corporate and commercial law with expertise in health care and life sciences, serving clients globally. He has served as Vice President and General Counsel of a publicly traded telecommunications company and as a director of multiple commercial enterprises. His nonprofit leadership spans the Roosevelt Institute, where he served as Director, Officer, and Executive Committee Member of an organization which operates a think tank, helps to underwrite the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and sponsors policy education programs on 125 college campuses nationwide; the Four Freedoms Park at Roosevelt Island, which he helped establish, fund, and build; the National Hospice Foundation (as Chairman); and various other cultural institutions in New York, London, and Connecticut.
“I’ve spent my career working at the intersection of commerce, health, and civic purpose,” said Griffith. “The arts are not peripheral to American life—they’re central to our economy, our health, and our identity as a nation. 4A Arts is doing vital work to elevate creativity to its rightful place in public policy, and I’m honored to help advance that mission.”
“Bill’s arrival strengthens our board at a critical moment,” said Board Chair Luis R. Cancel. “His diverse experience in national organizations like the Roosevelt Institute to guiding support of the Worshipful Company of Musicians in London make him perfectly positioned to help us champion public funding for the arts at levels that reflect their true economic and cultural value. Together, we’re committed to ensuring that creativity isn’t treated as optional, but as essential to American life.”
4A Arts Executive Director Gavin Lodge emphasized the alignment between Mr. Griffith’s experience and 4A Arts’ strategic vision. “Bill understands how to build institutions that serve the public good, and he recognizes that the arts aren’t a luxury, they’re infrastructure for human flourishing. We’re building a movement to secure public funding commensurate with the arts’ massive economic impact and their irreplaceable role in helping Americans not just exist, but thrive. Bill’s leadership will be invaluable as we make the case that American creativity enriches our citizenship, strengthens our communities, and showcases our values to the world.”
Griffith holds a BA from Brown University (where he composed the score for two original musicals which were presented as part of the university’s theatre seasons) and a JD from George Washington University, and has completed multiple Executive Training programs at the Wharton School. He is a Freeman of the City of London, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians in London, a member of the University Club in New York, and a member of the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club.
